Endometriosis

Endometriosis is one of the most common gynecological diseases affecting fertility. About 25-30% of infertile women suffer from endometriosis.

About 30-40% of women with endometriosis are infertile, making it one of the top three causes for female infertility. Endometriosis-related infertility is often treated successfully using hormones and surgery in Spain.

What Is Endometriosis

Endometriosis occurs when tissue which lines the inside of the uterus grows outside of the uterus, usually on the surfaces of organs in the pelvic and abdominal areas (in places that it is not supposed to grow).

Endometriosis can affect any menstruating woman, from her first period to menopause, regardless of her race or ethnicity, or if she has children. Endometriosis can occasionally persist after menopause; or hormones taken for menopausal symptoms may cause symptoms of endometriosis to endure.

Pain — one of the most common symptoms of endometriosis is severe pain, frequently in the abdomen, lower back and pelvic areas. Some women have no pain even though their endometriosis is extensive, meaning that the affected areas are large, or that there is scarring.

With no cure in sight for endometriosis, treatments for endometriosis are accessible in Spain to improve fertility. In vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures in clinics all around Spain are effective in improving fertility in many women with endometriosis. IVF makes it possible to combine sperm and eggs and place the resulting embryos into the woman’s uterus.
